Singapore

Gyms. Fucking gyms. Such a love-hate relationship with gyms while traveling. I either find a nice expensive one, a nice one that is members only, or a cheap one that is beyond hot and the equipment is from the 70's. In Singapore, which is not that great of a city, I asked the staff at a hotel what a day pass at their gym would cost. She couldn't comprehend that as a non-guest, I just wanted to pay to use it. Of course, she had never encountered this before and said this was not possible. I explained that $20 to let me workout was more than they had before. And I'm not consuming anything, nothing changes after I leave the gym except they make money; nothing needs to be replaced or replenished. Anyway, she said I couldn't use it, so I came back the next morning, wen straight to the 6th floor, and had a terrific workout. Just gotta look like you own the place. Gyms and their policies are outrageous and the fact that it's such a hassle (or so expensive) for someone who wants to be healthy and exercise is beyond my capacity of understanding.
