Dachau 3 // Munich

First picture was a diorama type thing of Dachau which doesn’t do it justice when walking through it. It’s such a big space, with the walls and guard towers still intact. Second picture shows all the concentration camps throughout Germany. Hard to believe. Middle picture is a crematorium. What really gets me is the stretcher that I can only assume was used to dump people inside of it. Last picture is the gas chamber with the gas pipes in the ceiling and fake water spigots on the wall to fool the prisoners into going into the room. Although the gas chambers in Dachau were never used, still an eerie sight. Some dark shit at 10am today. My buddy is dating a German girl and he told me that at a certain age in school, they take the students to visit a concentration camp. I don’t know why people ever said that Germans don’t learn about the Holocaust.

Munich Museum

Our last adventure today was going to see a Museum of literally every invention man has made since the dawn of time. It was legit. I’m also now quite familiar with the Munich subway system. I’d like to give a shoutout to the people of Munich who put up with Miguel’s bad German as well as us acting like typical tourists.

Allianz Stadium // Munich

On a lighter note, we went and saw the stadium where Bayern Munich plays. There was a game going on so we didn’t go inside, but as a soccer fan, it was worth the trip.

Dachau 2 // Munich

More from Dachau. I walked into the gas chambers and it was one of the most uncomfortable experiences of my life.

Dachau // Munich

Dachau concentration camp is huge. It was also such a weird experience. They only kept a couple of the barracks up and filled the rest with rocks. The photograph is what the camp looked like when it was liberated. I can only imagine what it would have been like when it was full. 2 churches and a convent have been built on the premises as a way to somehow alleviate the sadness and create a memorial for the lives lost. Learned a lot today. Learned that the initial prisoners built the barracks that they stayed in. Also learned that after the crematoriums, the Nazis would dump all the ashes into a single pit, which is located outside next to the building. Learned that they also dug a “blood trench” so after shooting the prisoners against a wall, the blood wouldn’t form puddles. It was a dark morning for sure. Reading about it in high school doesn’t even compare to walking through the camp. My buddy refused to go into the gas chamber and after I was in there alone, my head almost touching the 6 foot something ceiling, I quickly understood his reasoning. Although never used, it was creepy being in a place built with an intention to end life.

Munich Subway

tumblr_nk2x524OVk1ro5grbo2_1280.jpg

This is a subway station in Munich and although there was a place to put the tickets, no one does. So I asked my buddy why people even bother buying tickets and he said “It’s the right thing to do. German people just do it. The system works because people have morals and the authorities have faith in the people”. Maybe it’s because I live in China, but I was blown away that such a system can and does function so effectively
