CHINA

Country Overview:

“Love the food, hate the government”

I arrived in China in May 2013 and left August 2020. I taught English for awhile, did my master’s of politics & foreign policy at Tsinghua University, worked for a year at China Today, and then two years at Xinhua News Agency. I spent most of my time in Beijing, but also traveled to Shanghai, Wuhan, Inner Mongolia, Shenzhen, Panjin, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Qingdao, Xi’an, Sanya, Macau, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

Happy birthday to my little brother Mackenzie! A big 25 today and I wish you all the best from Beijing. You have pushed me, inspired me, and made me think of what it means to be a brother. Remember when padre sat us down in the living room to read us "Who moved my cheese?" as we squirmed about under the chairs? Or going over to Ed's for ice cream and that inevitable lingering smell of cigarettes as Norma did the crossword? Every time I see the scar on my left arm I'm reminded of chasing you out the back door, shattering glass just for a baseball glove. Hell of a glove though. We've roadtripped to Montana, partied in McCall, and spent countless times together laughing for no reason. I cherish those memories and look forward to creating more with you in the future.  Much love and have a wonderful birthday!
